ALASKA AT LAST
2 AUGUST 2014

This morning finds us on an Air Canada flight to Anchorage.  After we go through customs on the Canadian side, yes the Canadian side before we enter the USA, we board the plane for our 3+ hour flight north.

Our rental car from AVIS is a KIA Optima.  I have never driven one before and am eager to try it out.  I slip behind the wheel and off we go for Seward, our first stop on the Kenai Peninsula.

About three hours and loads of fabulous scenery (too massive to photograph successfully) later we arrive at
Front of Alaska Salt Water Lodge
the Alaska Saltwater Lodge where we check into our two bedroom apartment for two nights.

The day is warm (70F) and sunny.
Colorful Mountains In The Sun
The view from the deck spectacular as it faces  Resurrection Bay and magnificent mountains.

Later as some gulls are eating a fish a bald eagle soars down to take over the feast.  As it approaches the gulls

scatter and then hang around to see if there will be anything left for them when the eagle is through much like the jackals in Africa do until the Hyena is finished with the kill that the Lions have made. All in the pecking order of Mother Nature.

Tomorrow we take a 6 hour boat tour out to a glacier.  Will it calve while we are there?  Will there be whales, birds, dolphins, goats, otters?  Tomorrow will tell the story.

Much Love To You All,

Mom/Grandma Syrup/Sara
